Georgia State Trooper rear-ended by texting driver on Highway 48 Saturday
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report on Saturday October 19, around 12:00 PM a Georgia State Patrol patrol charger being driven by Corporal Doug Shamblin was traveling eastbound on GA-48. The Patrol vehicle was stopped attempting a left turn when a Honda Accord traveling eastbound slammed into the rear-end. The impact sent the GSP Patrol vehicle spinning around and the Honda Accord off the roadway. The patrol vehicle came to a final rest facing westbound in the westbound lane. There driver of the Honda Accord told the trooper she was texting and driving. Georgia State Patrol Post 38 in Rome Sargent was called to the scene to investigate the crash. Both the trooper and the driver of the Honda were transported by Redmond EMS with minor injuries to a local hospital in Rome. The driver of the Honda Accord was cited for following too closely and distracted driving. In a separate crash a tractor-trailer passing through the crash failed to make a wide turn and the clipped the back of the GSP patrol vehicle causing minor damage.
