Georgia State Patrol investigating serious head-on crash on Highway 48 Sunday morning
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating serious Sunday morning Highway 48 head-on crash. The head-on crash occurred Sunday around 9:00 A.M. in the area of 2780 Highway 48. Summerville Fire Department, Chattooga County Sheriff's Office, Georgia State Patrol, and Redmond EMS responded to the crash. Preliminary reports say a 2019 Ford Mustang with Gwinnett County Tags was traveling westbound when it for unknown reasons veered off the eastbound shoulder and slammed head-on into an eastbound 1996 Chevrolet pickup truck. Both occupants of the Chevrolet pickup who our residents of Chattooga County was transported by Redmond EMS to Floyd Medical Center in Rome. Both occupants of the 2019 Mustang were airlifted by both Careflight Emergency Air Transport and LifeForce to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga in serious. Both occupants were said to be in stable but critical condition as of Monday. Highway 48 was shut down for several hours Sunday while troopers conducted their investigation.
