Four from Nashville arrested on drug and shoplifting charges in Dalton

The Dalton Police Department arrested four people involved in a shoplifting incident at a Dalton department store on Tuesday and investigators believe that the group has also stolen from other businesses. Investigators are working to determine what other businesses may have been robbed by the group, which was traveling from Nashville, Tennessee. Dalton officers were dispatched to a report of a shoplifting in progress at the Kohl’s department store on Shugart Road on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 3:45. Dalton officers arrived at the store and were able to stop the suspects’ car, a black Dodge Challenger as it was leaving on Shugart Road. Officers found that the four had more than $1,600 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s. They were also found to be in possession of marijuana and other drugs. When investigators searched the vehicle they also found trash bags full of new clothing apparently stolen from other businesses. The clothing items had price tags and security tags still attached. Also in the vehicle were several identification cards in the names of other people, which Dalton investigators believe may have been used for the suspects to return items to businesses fraudulently in exchange for cash. Myiesha Mayes, 23, of Nashville was arrested and charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, open container violation, concealing license tag, driving without insurance, and felony shoplifting. Jennifer Mayes, 41, of Nashville was arrested and charged with violation of the Georgia controlled substance act (possession of schedule B drugs), possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and felony shoplifting. Jamez Harris, 18, of Nashville was arrested and charged with violation of the Georgia controlled substance act (possession of schedule B drugs), possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, open container, crossing the guard line of a jail with drugs, and felony shoplifting. Ashley Ikeard, 26, of Nashville was arrested and charged with open container, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, and felony shoplifting. Investigators are working with loss prevention associates at area stores to determine where some of the other stolen clothing may have originated. If any businesses believe their stores may have been robbed by the four suspects, they’re asked to call Detective Brian Shirley at 706-278-9085, extension 9189.
