Former Murray County detention officer charged by the GBI with sexual assault
Updated: Jan 24
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has officially charged a former Murray County Sheriff's Office detention officer. Bryson Wallace Starks, 24, of Resaca, was arrested Friday and booked into the Whitfield County Jail on charges of violation of oath by a public officer and three counts of sexual assault against a person in custody, on probation/parole or a patient in a hospital or other institution. Murray County Sheriff's office said an inmate in the jail reported inappropriate conduct by Starks to other jail staff on March 7, 2019. Starks was suspended the next day and was terminated by the sheriff's office for violation of policy on March 13. The incident was turned over to the GBI and it wasn't until January 17, 2020, when the GBI obtained additional information that he was arrested. Due to the investigation being ongoing, the GBI said they could not release any details relating to the case. Starks was still in the Whitfield County Jail Thursday.
