Father and son duo arrested after shoplifting from Walmart in Dalton

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Friday, August 21st, 2020, at approximately 1:30 PM, Officer Womack responded to a shoplifting at Walmart located at 815 Shugart Road. When Officer Womack arrived on the scene, Michael Leslie Hughes, 53 of Ringgold and John Leslie Hughes, 76 of Tunnel Hill were in the loss prevention office. Michael and John were caught on camera, shoplifting multiple items via skip-scanning the items and scanning false tags. They ultimately paid $54.17 for $180.22 worth of merchandise. The stolen merchandise included a car battery $111, energizer batteries $16, saddles $6, a ribeye $34 and Mayfield ice cream $4. Receipts and video footage of the incident were entered into evidence. Both suspects were booked into the Whitfield County Jail issued uniform citations for shoplifting.
