Fatal Tractor trailer crash shuts down I-59 southbound in Dade County

On November 16th, at approximately 12:00pm, Trenton PD, along with Dade County Sheriff's Office and Georgia State Patrol, was dispatched to Interstate 59, just North of the Trenton exit, in reference to a wreck involving a tractor-trailer. All Dade County Units arrived on scene, and found that the accident actually involved 2 tractor-trailers. The driver of one of the tractor-trailers was found to be out walking around the accident, while the other driver involved was found to be entrapped inside the cab of his semi-truck, which had been completely detached from it's frame. The entrapped driver was also found to be deceased on scene. Early reports from witnesses suggested that one tractor-trailer crossed the median, and struck the other tractor-trailer head-on. The driver who was taken in to custody will be identified later today, as well as his listed charges. Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the accident. Interstate 59 South was completely shut down for approximately 6 hours. Sheriff Cross wants to thank all agencies involved in this incident, for their prompt response and assistance. According to the Dade County Sheriff's Office, Rodriguez-Pagan was arrested at the scene on charges of DUI- driving under the Influence, 1st degree homicide by vehicle, driving on the wrong side of the road, failure to maintain lane, and driving within emergency lane/median.

6:30P.M.: Fast plane is now open pet Trenton Fire Department they don’t expect it to be completely cleared until sometime tomorrow.

The Georgia State patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash involving two tractor-trailers on I-59 southbound near mile marker 12 in Dade County Friday afternoon. Witnesses stat a tractor-trailer traveling northbound crossed the median into the southbound lanes crashing into another tractor-trailer head-on. There is currently no estimated time for I-59 to be reopened please avoid area. We will have further information on this accident once it is released.
