Fairmount man airlifted to Atlanta after crash Saturday night in Gordon County, facing DUI charge

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Saturday, April 11th, 2020, around 8:40 PM, a 2011 Ford Mustang GT being driven by Cody Lomax, 21 of Fairmount was negotiating a right curve on Fire Tower Road while traveling too fast for conditions. The mustang crossed the roadway and traveled off the left shoulder. The mustang struck a stone wall with the front of the vehicle. The mustang overturned to its top and slid/rotated to a final rest in the roadway on its top. Tire marks were present leading from the right edge of the roadway and to the first area of impact. Gouge marks were present from the right rear wheel which separated from the vehicle. Scrape marks were present throughout the crash scene. Blood drops were located from the vehicle's final rest leading to the beginning of the crash scene. Lomax was located in the vehicle in the front two seats. The passenger left the scene on foot after the crash. Fairmount Police Officer Ragen stated the driver's foot was stuck in the steering wheel and he was slumped towards the front passenger seat before EMS attempted to remove him from the vehicle. He stated the driver was unresponsive initially. Once EMS loaded the driver into the vehicle, EMS staff advised Deputy Flippen that the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol due to his strong odor on his breath. The incident report had more information regarding the influence of alcohol. The passenger Brodix O'ree was located at a residence close by and was questioned. Lomax was taken by AirLife to Grady Hospital in Atlanta with serious injuries. Lomax stated while inside the Ambulance there was three people in the vehicle. He stated he was in the back seat as his brother was in the front right passenger seat and another male was driving. He stated the driver had blond hair and that he did not know his name or anything about him. Brodix stated he was riding with his brother and that they were the only two people in the vehicle. He stated his brother made a mistake and crashed the vehicle. He stated his brother jerked the wheel after losing control coming out of a curve. GSP talked and questioned Lomax again on the Monday at his residence. He stated he was driving around the curve and noticed he was half way in the ditch. He stated he snatched the wheel to the left to correct the vehicle while speeding up and lost control at that point. He stated he did not remember anything else. He stated he did not remember stating anything about another driver at the scene. He stated he had been drinking prior to driving. Lomax was charged with DUI less safe, too fast for conditions, and failure to maintain lane. According to the report he signed the citations for an appearance date and stated he understood.
