East Georgia man arrested after traveling to Floyd County to have sex with child
Floyd County Police Department continues its fight against online child sexual predators. The unit has made close to 50 arrests related to the online child predator stings so far this year. According to Floyd County Jail reports Anthony Matthew Gagliani, 48, of Thomson, Georgia, was arrested by Sgt. Misty Pledger on Tuesday after traveling to Floyd County to meet with someone believed to be under the age of 14. Gagliani made contact online with someone he believed to be under the age of 14 and engaged in a graphic description of sex acts with the individual. During the arrest, Gagliani was found with drugs in his possession, as well as more drugs later during the booking process at the jail. Gagliani was charged with felony aggravated child molestation, electronic enticement, obscene internet contact with a child, possession of methamphetamine, and crossing guard lines with drugs. He is also charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana and driving on a suspended license. Floyd County Police Department said the investigation is ongoing and the report would be released once finished. The GBI’s Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit has been busy executing over 15 search warrants related to online child sexual exploitation. From those warrants, they’ve arrested over 15 people for possession or production or distribution of child pornography. Those investigations have rescued over ten children from situations where they were sexually abused, and other children were also identified, but the abuser no longer had access to the child.
