Early morning traffic stop in Whitfield County leads to $125,000 worth of stolen items

Cohutta Police Department says an early Saturday morning traffic stop has lead to the recovery of approximately $125,000 in stolen items. The multi agency operation consisted of Georgia Department of Community Supervision, Varnell PD, And Cohutta PD. Which lead to the recovery of multiple stolen items, including three trailers, two motorcycles, Ford pick truck and more. Some of the items were taken from the following area's Chattanooga TN, Dalton GA, Cohutta GA, Cleveland TN, Whitfield County, and Lyerly Ga. All owners identified have been notified or contact was attempted. Approximately $125,000 worth of items was recovered. The suspects have been identified as Ricky Kenneth Lawhorn, 59, of Squirrel Ave., Cohutta, charged with theft by taking, larceny, pocket picking, criminal damage to property, business, 2nd degree, criminal trespass, damage of $500 or less, possess tools for commission of crime, burglary, false statement/writing/conceal facts with govt, taillights violation, no operating brake lights or signal devices, cargo theft, and conspiracy to commit a felony. Jonathan Lee Smith, 30 of Orchard Mill Lane, Lawrenceville, was charged with theft by taking, larceny, other, ID theft fraud using/poss. ID info a person, criminal damage to property, business, 2nd degree, probation violation, felony, possess tools for commission of crime, criminal trespass of property without permission, false statement/ writing/ conceal facts with govt., giving false name / address / dob to law officer, cargo theft , and conspiracy to commit a felony


Tuesday night another multiple agency operation was conducted by GA Department Community Supervision, Varnell PD, and Cohutta PD, and was successful in the recovery of stolen property, methamphetamine and wanted persons. The operation consisted of serving two search warrants, and an arrest warrant. During the execution of the search warrants and arrest warrants more stolen property was recovered from two seprate locations. This operation lead to the apprehension of 4 wanted people, and another two taken into custody for possession of narcotics. The stolen property was recovered and will be inventoried by the Varnell PD, They posted to follow their Facebook page for updates on the items recovered. Varnell PD posted "Once again another job well done for all Officer's involved with all 3 agencies." "Special thanks to our Whitfield County E-911 dispatchers for their assistance. Special thanks also to Dalton PD, Cleveland TN PD and Bradley County Sheriff's Office for their assistance in their respective jurisdictions for helping to identify some recovered theft items. Those arrested included:

David Lamar Patterson, 48 charged with probation violation, felony, probation violation, felony, and willful obstruction of law officers

Lisa Ann Hart, 53 charged with possess methamphetamine and possession and use of drug related objects

David Eugene Schmitt, 54 charged with theft by receiving stolen property, false statement/writing/conceal facts with Govt, and hold for probation.
