Driver issued two citations after crashing into Catoosa County Deputy Monday morning
The Georgia State Patrol has released the crash report involving Catoosa County Sheriff Deputy. The crash happened Monday morning around 11:06 A.M. at the intersection of Cloud Springs Road and Cross Street in Fort Oglethorpe. According to the report a 2012 Honda Pilot Touring being driven by a Ringgold woman was traveling south on Cross Street. Catoosa County 2013 Dodge Charger Patrol vehicle being driven by Deputy Torres, with its emergency equipment activated, was traveling west on Cloud Springs Road. The Honda Pilot slowed to clear the intersection then proceeded west on Cloud Springs Road. The Honda, failing to yield to the emergency vehicle, continued through the intersection. The Honda, with its front left, struck the patrol vehicle in the right side. The area of impact occurred in the intersection of Cloud Springs Road. and Cross Street. Both vehicles came to a final rest in the intersection of Cloud Springs Road and Cross Street. The manner of this collision was determined by driver statements, vehicle damage, and review of 2 separate police dash camera videos. The driver of the Honda Marci Baldwin of Ringgold stated she didn't realize what was going on but she heard the siren and saw the Catoosa County Patrol vehicle crossing. She further stated she realized too late what was happening and was unable to stop in time. The deputy stated, with emergency equipment activated, he was responding to an emergency incident (Pedestrian struck on Lafayette Road). The deputy further stated after slowing to clear the intersection he proceeded west traveling almost completely through. He stated as the Honda entered his peripheral vision he attempted to avoid the collision but was struck. No injuries were reported in the crash. The driver of the Honda was issued two citations including operation of vehicles on approach of authorized emergency vehicles.
