Dalton woman cited following four vehicle crash in Dalton that injured several
According to a Dalton Police Department crash report on Tuesday, January 21st, 2020, around 6:29 PM, three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash. According to the report, a 2009 Honda Civic being driven by Kelsi Felts, 21, of Dalton, was in the inside southbound turning lane of Shugart Road at West Waugh Street, waiting to turn left to go eastbound on West Waugh Street. A 2000 Chevrolet Camaro being driven by Trevor Reece, 22, of Ellijay, was traveling in the outside, northbound lane of Shugart Road, approaching the intersection of West Waugh Street. A 2017 Nissan Sentra being driven by Maria Plata, 43, of Dalton was in the inside northbound lane of Shugart Road approaching the intersection of West Waugh Street. A 2009 Nissan Altima being driven by Kelvin Lovingood, 56, of Summerville was stationary in the outside westbound turning lane of West Waugh Street at Shugart Road, waiting to turn right to go northbound on Shugart Road. The driver of the Honda Civic stated that when she was stationary in the turning lane of Shugart Road at West Waugh Street, she saw her light turn yellow and attempted to turn left before her light turned red. The driver of the Honda Civic then stated that she saw both the Chevrolet Camaro and the Nissan Sentra traveling northbound on Shugart Road about to proceed through the intersection, but the Honda Civic driver thought that she could turn before both vehicles entered the intersection. The driver of the Honda Civic was struck by other vehicles in the intersection before she was able to complete the turn. The driver of the Camaro stated that as he was traveling northbound in the outside lane of Shugart Raod, approaching the intersection when the Hond Civic turned directly in the path of his vehicle. The driver of the Nissan Sentra stated that he attempted to stop before striking the Honda, but was unsuccessful and struck the Honda almost head-on before then striking the stationary Nissan Altima in the right turning lane of West Waugh Street. The driver of the Honda Civic was cited for failure to yield right of way while turning left. Dalton utilities were advised of the damage to the pole. Several occupants involved in the crash complained of injuries but did not wish to be transported.
