Dalton PD Investigating Fraudulent Use Of Gift Cards
Much like unwrapping an empty birthday present, at least three people have reported trying to use gift cards that were apparently cleaned out electronically and the Dalton Police Department is investigating. In each case, the gift cards were purchased somewhere else and the funds were used fraudulently in Dalton. Investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify three suspects from surveillance video. Three separate victims have reported to Dalton investigators that their Walmart gift cards were somehow used at Walmart locations in Dalton despite the fact the physical cards were still in their possession which they had not yet used to make any purchases. The gift cards were loaded by victims at Walmart stores in Chattanooga, Fort Oglethorpe, and Cartersville. After retrieving surveillance images of the fraudulent purchases being made with the gift card numbers in Dalton, investigators found that a group of three people were involved in the scheme. One older African-American female was present for each of the four occasions, with blonde highlighted braids during the first incident and then darker hair during subsequent purchases. A younger African-American woman was with her during two of the purchases, and an African-American male with shoulder-lengthy braids was with her for two of the purchases. They are apparently traveling in a black four-door Chevy Silverado pickup truck. Surveillance images of the three suspects are included with this release.
Anyone who knows these suspects or who has information about this crime is asked to please contact Detective Charles Williams at 706-278-9085, extension 9280.
