Dalton pair arrested for shoplifting after stealing from Shugart Road Walmart
According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Friday, July 24th, 2020, at around 4:40 PM, an officer was dispatched to Walmart Supercenter located at 815 Shugart Road in reference to a shoplifting that had occurred. Loss prevention stated that she had two in custody, and they were cooperative. Upon arrival, the officer met with the female loss prevention associate and reviewed the video. The officer observed a black female in an electric wheelchair handing a black male various grocery items. The female would hand the numerous male items, but the male would only scan one of the items. The unscanned items, along with the scanned items, were then placed into bags. This method of shoplifting is called skip-scanning. The officer then gathered the suspect's information. The male was identified as Jeffery Lynn Bryant, 58 of Dalton. The female was identified as Chanda Marie Bryant, 49 of Dalton. The items that were not scanned and placed into bags are as follows: -smoked ham -as 12 mg -extra-thick bologna -smoked sausage -two t-bone steaks -two porterhouse steaks - baby back ribs - beef patties -two wrights 24oz - kraft cheese -hostess snacks - MB gravy bone -Powerade -2% milk -shaving foam - Dove soap -Tylenol -sour cream -24pk Pepsi -Sprite -bananas. These items totaled to $176.87 shoplifted. Jeffery and Chanda were both arrested for theft by shoplifting and booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
