Dalton man killed in early Monday morning crash on I-75 in Whitfield County, several others injured
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report on Monday October 21st at approx. 2:00AM a 2004 Honda Pilot being driven by Ricardo D. Yanez-Martinez, 29 of a Dalton address was in the left lane headed south on I-75 near mile marker 334. A 2006 Chevy Express van being driven by Robert L. Fisher of a Decatur address was in the center lane when the Pilot traveled too fast for conditions and failed to maintain its lane of travel. The Pilot began to rotate clockwise and went into the center lane and struck the van in the left front with its right side. Both vehicles left the roadway. The van hit a ditch and ended up stopping on the west shoulder. The Pilot struck a ditch with its left front side and overturned, ending on its right side facing west on the west shoulder. The driver of the Pilot Yanez-Martinez died at the scene. One of the passengers in Yanez-Martinez’s car told the investigating trooper that he had been driving 110 MPH and was weaving in and out of traffic before the crash. Five people were taken to the hospital with injuries two of them were serious. Willis Funeral Home is handling funeral arrangements for Yanez-Martinez. Memorial will be held in the Chapel at Willis Funeral Home on Sunday October 27, 2019 at 5:00 P.M. Family will receive friends one hour before the service.
