Dalton man charged with DUI after crashing into Roan School early Saturday morning

According to an incident report on Saturday, November 16th at approx. 6:39 AM, Dalton Police officers responded to 1116 Roan Street, Roan St School, in reference to a single-vehicle crash. According to the report, a 2005 Scion tC Base being driven by Jonathan Sanchez, 23 of a Dalton address was traveling east on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The scion was approaching the intersection with Grimes Street. The Scion left he roadway showing no signs of breaking or slowing. The Scion continued off the roadway going under the chain-link fence after crashing into the fence post which bent. The Scion then continued alongside the deck before coming to a final resting place under the end of the deck at the school. Sanchez stated to officers that he was driving the vehicle at the time it crashed but was unsure of exactly what happened. He stated that he was heading to Kennesaw from Crescent City Tavern on Depot Street. An officer who arrived first on the scene advised they spoke with Sanchez before he was transported by EMS. They advised that he smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage. Sanchez stated that he had only had a few beers with fiends. He state that he had only bought 2 buckets of Michelob Ultra which contained 5 beers apiece. He stated that he split the buckets with friends. While speaking with Sanchez at there hospital the officer noticed that his speech was slurred as well as his eyes being extremely red and glassy. Sanchez was arrested later that afternoon after being released from the hospital on charges of driving under influence of alcohol (less safe) and failure to maintain lane. At the Whitfield County Jail, booking personnel presented Sanchez with an alco-sensor to see his alcohol level where he registered a .089 nearly 10 hours since the crash had occurred.
