Dalton man arrested again for theft after shoplifting basketball from Walmart

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Tuesday, June 23rd, 2020, an officer was dispatched to Walmart located at 815 Shugart Road in reference to a shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the on-duty loss prevention officer who stated that the suspect, Rhett Lee Satterfield, 24 of Dalton, went through the checkout line without paying for a basketball and attempted to leave the store. The loss prevention officer stated that Satterfield scanned several food items and then moved a basketball, valued at $31. 74, across the scanner with the bar code-oriented away from the scanner, and placed it with the rest of his items. Satterfield then paid with an EBT card and attempted to leave the store. Satterfield stated that it was an accident, and he did not know the basketball did not scan. He also stated that he knew that he could not pay for the ball with an EBT card and that he would have to pay with cash. Satterfield was then taken into custody and escorted to the Whitfield County Sheriff's Office, where he was charged with shoplifting. Satterfield was booked into the Whitfield County Jail on June 12th on warrants for shoplifting, entering an automobile with the intent to commit theft or felony and felony theft by taking/larceny/theft of an automobile.
