Dalton man arrested after shoplifting thousands of dollars worth in merchandise from Walmart

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff's Office incident report, on May 17th, 2020, at around 6:09 PM, a deputy was dispatched to Walmart located at 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference to a shoplifter. The deputy arrived on scene and spoke with the Loss Prevention Officer. The LP stated that the suspect identified as James Woodrow Hill, 59 of Dalton, went to Customer Service and returned $135.13 dollars in merchandise. LP stated that Hill had gotten the items from the shelves and then returned them even though he had not paid for the items. LP stated that Hill then went through the store, gathering more merchandise. Hill then exited the store without paying for any of the items. Hill walked out of the store with $1498.43 dollars worth of merchandise. The deputy placed Hill under arrest and transported him to the Whitfield County Jail. The deputy charged Hill with felony theft by shoplifting and theft by deception.
