Cohutta woman arrested for shoplifting from Walmart after trying to enter the pharmacy
On Sunday, December 29, 2019, A Whitfield County deputy responded to Walmart at 2545 East Walnut Avenue in reference to a female that appeared to be impaired and was trying to enter the pharmacy. Dispatch also advised that the female also had a large bag and purse possibly containing merchandise that hadn't been paid for. Upon arrival the deputy made contact with the female in question as she exited the general merchandise exit. The female appeared to be on something and was identified as Michelle Lynn Skidmore, 37, of Cohutta. Deputy then asked the female about trying to enter the pharmacy and she stated "Yes I tried to open the door". Deputy hackney then asked Skidmore if she had a receipt for the merchandise in her bag and as Skidmore was digging in her purse like she was looking for a receipt deputy noticed merchandise in Skidmore's purse. Skidmore was detained and the deputy went to the loss prevention office where it was noticed that Skidmore had never purchased any of the items which totaled $170.38 it was returned to Walmart. Skidmore was arrested for theft by shoplifting and transported to Whitfield County Jail without further incident.
