Chatsworth motorcyclist killed in crash during memorial ride Saturday in Murray County
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020, at around 2:41 PM, a 2009 Nissan Maxima being driven by Patricia Watson, 59 of Calhoun, was traveling south on GA 225. A 2009 Ford Focus being driven by Vickey Tinsley, 63 of Dalton, was stopped due to traffic on GA 225 in the southbound lane. A 2006 Harley Davidson, being driven by Ricky Phillips, 63 of Chatsworth, was traveling north on GA 225. A 2005 Harley Davidson, being driven by Kristin Rainey, 35 of Dalton, was traveling north on GA 225 behind Phillips. Watson stated that she was watching the motorcycles and did not see the Ford Focus stopped until it was too late. The Nissan Maxima was unable to stop and swerved into the northbound lane, striking the left rear side of the Ford Focus with the front right of the Nissan Maxima. After impact, the Nissan Maxima struck the front of the 2006 Harley Davidson, being driven by Phillips with the front left of the Nissan Maxima. The debris from the crash damaged the front fender and front fairing of the 2005 Harley Davidson. After impact with the 2006 Harley Davidson, the Nissan Maxima struck the left front side of the Ford Focus with the front right side of the Nissan Maxima. Phillips suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Watson and a passenger Deborah German, 61 of Resaca, were both injured in the crash. The report listed several witnesses to the crash who apart of the 32nd John Crum Memorial ride. No charges have been filed but are pending in the crash pending completion. According to the Georgia State Patrol, a more thorough investigation is being conducted by SCRT-A.
