Chatsworth man cited by GSP after failing to yield while turning left in Whitfield County crash
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report on Tuesday, June 18th, around 9:30 P.M. a 2005 Saturn VUE being driven by Ashley Sullivan, 23 of a Cleveland TN address was in the right, westbound lane of GA 52 at GA 3 negotiating a curve. A 2017 Toyota Tacoma being driven Robert Youell, 26 of a Chatsworth address was turning left from the left, eastbound turn lane of GA 52 to go northbound on GA 3. As the Tacoma made its left turn, it struck the Saturn in the left front side with its front end. After impact, the Saturn came to a final, uncontrolled rest on the right, westbound shoulder of GA 52. The Tacoma rotated counterclockwise and came to a final, uncontrolled rest in the right, eastbound lane of GA 52. The Youell stated to the investigating trooper that he did not see the Saturn until just before impact. The Sullivan stated that another vehicle in front of the Tacoma had turned into her path and she had slowed down to avoid being struck by it, but was not able to avoid being struck by the Tacoma. A witness to the crash who was westbound on GA 52 behind Saturn. Told the Investigating trooper that the traffic light for westbound traffic was green when the Saturn entered the intersection and was struck by the Tacoma. The area of impact was in the right, westbound lane of GA 52 at GA 3 and was determined by scratch marks in the roadway from the Saturn, the statements of both drivers and the witness. The driver of the Tacoma was cited for failing to yield the right of way when turning left. The driver if the Saturn Sullivan was injured in the crash.
