Cave Spring man crashes on Highway 100 after falling asleep while heading to work Monday morning
According to a Summerville Police crash report Monday, July 1st a 2010 Dodge Ram being driven by Samuel J. Pointer 45 of Cave Spring, Georgia was traveling northbound on Highway 100. Lt. Tim Fulmer with the Summerville Police Department said the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The Dodge left the roadway and continued to travel northbound onto the right shoulder of the roadway 131 feet before striking a culvert. The Dodge then traveled an additional 126 feet before striking a concrete block fixture and flipping the truck. The Dodge then traveled about 81 feet on its top before first striking a concrete curb and then a section of black metal fencing at Saratoga Courts. The truck then traveled another 18 feet before coming to a stop. Pointer and passenger Daniel Minter 22 both suffered minor injures. They were both treated at the scene by Redmond EMS and released. They both stated they were headed to work at Roper in LaFayette from Cave Spring. Summerville PD officers said both occupants were extremely lucky.
