Cartersville man facing several felonies after shoplifting energy drinks from Kroger in Dalton
According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, on Sunday, February 22nd, 2020, an officer was contacted by a Kroger manager in reference to a shoplifter inside he recognized from a previous shoplifting incident on January 25th, 2020. The manager advised the officer the suspect was pushing a shopping cart full of energy drinks toward the front door on the north end of the building. The manager advised the officer this was the same way the suspect stole the last shopping cart full of energy drinks. The manager confronted the suspect later identified as Thomas Devontay Green, 27, of Cartersville, who abandoned the shopping cart in the store and ran around the backside of the business. An officer spotted Green running near the Fuji restaurant and took him into custody. Green was out of breath and sweating he stated that he was running because he was scared of the manager. After being read his Miranda rights Green stated he did not wish to speak any further. Green was the same suspect from the January 25th, 2020, felony theft. The manager had the shopping cart of items from the shoplifting that had just occurred scanned. The value of those items was over $700 ($713. 57). The energy drinks were even placed in the shopping cart and concealed with large packs of toilet paper on both nights. The manager provided the officer with a copy of the video from both incidents showing the Green shoplifting. An officer was out with Green's friend, in the parking lot in his vehicle. The officer attempted to get him to exit his vehicle, and while doing so, he drug the officer slamming the car door on the officer's arm before fleeing the scene. That suspect was also caught on video committing felony shoplifting from Kroger on January 25th, 2020. That suspect whose name has not been released yet pending arrest is facing several felonies, including felony assault charges. Green was transported to the Whitfield County Jail charged with two counts of felony theft by shoplifting.
