Calhoun man arrested on slew of charges after leading GSP Trooper on chase Sunday in Gordon Co.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, on Sunday, June 28th, 2020 at around 12:32 AM, Georgia State Patrol Trooper Bullock was attempting to stop a 2020 Kia Optima being driven by Derrick Lee Demease, 42 of Calhoun. Demease began fleeing from the marked Georgia State Patrol vehicle, with its lights and siren activated. The Kia was driving on a private driveway located at 1217 US Highway 41. Demease exited the Kia while the vehicle was still in drive. The Kia continued rolling until it struck a house. Demease was arrested by the Georgia State Patrol and charged with distracted driving/use of cell phone, driving on divided highways, driving on roadways laned for traffic, DUI, duty of driver to stop or return to the scene of an accident, fleeing or attempting to elude police officers, improper lane change, manufacture/sell/dispense/distribute, maximum limits, possession and use of drug related objects, possession of marijuana less than one ounce, reckless driving, safety belt violation and vehicles to drive on right side of road.
