Bartow County couple finds missing Marietta woman dead in vehicle crash

According to the Georgia State Patrol: "On Thursday, September 24, 2020, at approximately 8:13 p.m., (TFC B. Sanford) was dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on GA 293 near Old River Road. GSP was informed that the vehicle involved was overturned, and the vehicle was suspected of being involed in a missing person case (approximately five days old). Once on-scene, GSP observed a black sedan on its roof, down an embankment on the east side of GA 293. Bartow Fire Department advised a black female was inside the vehicle deceased. Shortly after arriving, GSP met with Bartow County couple, Jason Stanfield and Stacy Stewart who learned of William’s disappearance and wanted to help with the search. Stanfield, a former firefighter is familiar with the area and used this knowledge to locate the vehicle. He had learned the missing person had traveld from an address near Mission Road in Cartersville and supposed to have been traveling to Marietta at the time she was last heard from. He stated he was traveling north on GA 293 when he observed a broken tree on the east side of the roadway. He stated he turned around to further investigate and found the overturned sedan at approximately 8 p.mn. and immediately called 911. Due to the position of the vehicle down an embankment, and large presence of foliage partially covering the sedan, the vehicle could not be easily seen from GA 293. Bartow County Firefighters were able to locate a Georgia license plate on the vehicle which matched the vehicle the missing person was last known to have been driving. Once the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office Investigator arrived at the scene, the vehicle was lifted from the ditch. The driver, later identified by her Georgia Driver’s License as Danisha T. Williams was deceased inside the vehicle. Ms. Williams was confirmed as the missing person. The date and time of the crash was approximated to be September 19, 2020 at 2 a.m. This was due to the Investigator stating Ms. Williams’ last known contact was a telephone conversation with her boyfriend at the time. According to the Investigator, the boyfriend stated Ms. Williams drove him to his house near Mission Road in Cartersville, and called him on her way back to her house in Cobb County. Ms. Williams stated she was lost and trying to find her way back to (US) 41. The boyfriend also stated he and Ms. Williams had consumed alcoholic beverages that evening, and he advised Ms. Williams to not take the interstate home, but to take backroads. He stated he was talking to Ms. Williams when the phone cut off around 2 a.m."
