Acworth woman booked on charges related to fatal Bartow County crash
Acworth woman was booked into Bartow County Jail in connection to fatal crash in Bartow County last year According to the Georgia State Patrol on Sept. 21 of last year a BMW was traveling northbound on Glade Road near Apache Drive at around 2:50 a.m. when the BMW struck a dog while it was swerving towards the right side of the roadway. The car continued northbound on the road, but crashed into a power pole with its right front, GSP added. A male passenger, identified as 24-year-old Beau Johnson of Marietta, was entrapped inside the vehicle. The BMW then caught fire. Bystanders tried to rescue Johnson from the vehicle, but they were unsuccessful. Johnson died as a result of the fiery crash. Darla Smith, 22, of Acworth, did receive serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries in the collision according to the Georgia State Patrol. The crash investigation was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team. A blood test returned warrants were issued for Smith. Smith was arrested and booked into the Bartow County Jail last Friday charged with driving under the influence of multiple substances, improper lane change/failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and homicide by vehicle 1st degree non-habitual violator. Smith bond was set at $6,550 and has since been released.
