Dalton woman obstructs deputies and becomes belligerent while being arrested for 4th DUI

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On April 19th, 2023, at 1:05 AM, Deputy Dennison and Deputy Long were dispatched to an address Mulkey Drive in reference to a disturbance in progress. According to the report, “Dispatch advised deputies that a female subject was outside of this residence causing a disturbance with the property owners. Dispatched advised deputies that the property owners believed that the female was extremely intoxicated.” Deputy Dennison observed the vehicle back partially out of the driveway and pulled back into the driveway. Deputy Dennison made contact with the driver, later identified as Laura Ann Silva, 33, of Dalton. According to the report, “Deputy Dennison could immediately smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from Ms. Silva’s mouth area. Ms. Silva was also slurring her speech heavily. Deputy Dennison asked Ms. Silva how much alcohol she had to drink, and she stated that she had two glasses of wine. Due to Ms. Silva being extremely intoxicated and being in the driver’s seat of her vehicle, Deputy Dennison asked her to exit the vehicle and stand outside of it. Ms. Silva refused to exit the vehicle and began to reach for items in the vehicle, so Deputy Dennison used very minimal force to pull her out. Deputy Dennison detained Ms. Silva due to her not being cooperative and extremely intoxicated. Deputy Dennison feared that Ms. Silva would leave the scene in her vehicle while intoxicated. Ms. Silva began acting extremely belligerent and resisted deputies while they were detaining her. While trying to get Ms. Silva into the back of the patrol car, Ms. Silva began resisting deputies and would not sit in the patrol car. Deputy Dennison asked Ms. Silva if someone could come to pick up her vehicle, but Ms. Silva continued to act belligerent and would not answer Deputy Dennison.” Deputies located an open container of alcohol in her vehicle. Silva acted belligerent with Whitfield County Jail booking staff. Silva was charged with open container violation, DUI alcohol less safe, obstruction of law enforcement officers, and criminal trespass of property without permission. According to Dalton Police Department arrest records, Silva has a lengthy history of DUI’s and being belligerent.
