Dalton woman arrested for DUI after running red light on Hamilton Street

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On January 15th, 2023, at 2:20 AM, while assisting another officer on a traffic stop Officer Jenkins witnessed a white Ford Explorer drive by with no headlights on while traveling on Thornton Avenue. Officer Jenkins then witnessed the vehicle turn left on red, running the light at the intersection of Hamilton Street and Emery Street. Officer Jenkins then conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which stopped in the turning lane at the intersection of Crawford Street and Hamilton. The officer made contact with the driver, later identified as Lizbeth Fuentes-Gonzalez, 25, of Dalton, and could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her breath. Officer Jenkins reported, “[I] then asked Gonzalez if she had anything to drink tonight, and she stated yes, she had maybe only had two beers. Officer Morang and Warren arrived on the scene to assist. Once she exited the vehicle, [I] could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage strongly coming from her breath.” During field sobriety testing, Gonzalez showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .130 on a PBT. Gonzales was placed under arrest for DUI and agreed to the state test. Gonzalez was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where she showed a BAC of .090. She was charged with DUI and running a red light.
