Dalton man violently assaults girlfriend and steals her car during domestic rage in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On January 9th, 2023, at 8:38 PM, Deputy Woods was dispatched to the area of Artifact Way in reference to a Domestic Dispute. According to the report, “Deputy Woods made contact with the victim who stated that her boyfriend Shannon Travis Fields, 45, of Dalton, had assaulted her. The victim stated they both were at a friend’s gathering when Mr. Fields got agitated and wanted to leave. The victim stated as they were traveling back to their residence, Mr. Fields continued to provoke the situation. The victim stated Mr. Fields had pushed her up against the wall and then onto the bed. The victim then stated while Mr. Fields was on top of her on the bed, Mr. Fields made contact with her face causing visible serious injury. The victim also stated Mr. Fields had slapped her several times and then grabbed her by the throat, causing visible injury. The victim informed Deputy Woods that as soon as Mr. Fields observed the injuries he had caused, he immediately apologized. The victim also stated as she was attempting the contact the Whitfield County Telecommunication Center in the bathroom with the door locked, Mr. Fields attempted to kick the door down. Mr. Fields was successful and snatched her cellphone from her.” The victim stated he then stole her vehicle and fled the scene. Deputies then located Fields, who stated he didn’t know what happened due to “blacking out”. Fields were detained and asked how the vehicle ended up in a church parking lot. Fields were then transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with aggravated assault (FV), battery (FV), felony theft By taking, obstructing, or hindering persons making emergency telephone calls, simple assault (FV), and driving on a suspended license.
