Dalton man found with meth after shoplifting from Walmart in Whitfield County

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On May 23rd, 2023, at 9:16 AM, Deputies G. Vasquez, Spivey, and S. Vazquez, were dispatched to the Walmart located at 2545 E Walnut Avenue in reference to a shoplifting in progress. The Whitfield County Communications Center stated the loss prevention officer witnessed a white male wearing a black shirt and blue jeans attempt to conceal merchandise. The loss prevention officer informed deputies that the male subject (Tyler Scott Horn, 33, of Dalton) ate two breakfast sandwiches and was observed removing merchandise from the shelf and placing them into a small bag, concealing the store products. Deputy G. Vasquez made contact with Horn. According to the report, “Once at the AP office, Deputy G. Vasquez read Mr. Horn his Miranda Warning. While reviewing the surveillance footage, Mr. Horn could be seen picking up merchandise and placing them into a small bag. Deputy Spivey then asked Mr. Horn for consent to search his person in order to see if he had any merchandise still on his person. Mr. Horn agreed, and Deputy Spivey conducted a search on Mr. Horn. While conducting a search of his right front pants pocket, Deputy Spivey found a small clear plastic baggie containing meth. Mr. Horn stated the baggie was not his and stated he did not know where the baggie came from. Mr. Horn then stated he no longer wished to answer any questions.” Horn was transported to the Whitfield County Jail, charged with possession of meth and theft by shoplifting.
