Dalton man arrested for DUI after driving recklessly and towards oncoming traffic

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On February 11th, 2023, at 2:38 AM, Officer Herrera observed a silver Dodge pickup truck stopped at the intersection of East Morris Street and Spencer Street. The silver Dodge pickup truck was spinning its back tires while stationary causing a loud screeching noise that could be heard from several streets down. The silver Dodge pickup truck then took a right-hand turn and failed to maintain the lane by driving towards oncoming traffic. Officer Herrera reported, “[I] activated my emergency blue lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The pickup truck continued driving east on East Morris Street while swerving. The pickup truck left the roadway and came to a stop on the sidewalk.” Once the vehicle came to a stop, the officer made contact with the driver, identified as Oscar Carrizal Juarez, 36, of Dalton. While the officer spoke with Oscar, he observed that he had red, watery eyes, slurred speech, moved slowly, and was using his vehicle to maintain balance. The officer asked Oscar if he had consumed any alcoholic beverages on this day, and he said yes. Oscar stated that he consumed “Bucana”. Officer Bethune and Officer Ellenburg arrived on the scene to assist. During standardized field sobriety tests, Oscar showed several signs of impairment and was placed under arrest. Oscar refused the state test. Oscar was transported to the Whitfield County Jail and charged with reckless driving and DUI alcohol less safe.
