Dalton man arrested for DUI after causing crash on Underwood Street

According to a Dalton Police Department incident report, On January 9th, 2023, at 2:28 PM, Officer Hughes and Fraire responded to a vehicle crash on Underwood Street and Frazier Drive. Officers were met by Gustavo Figueroa-Feliciano, 49, of Dalton, who was looking to provide his vehicle insurance. Officer Fraire reported, “As Gustavo was talking to me, [I] noticed he was slurring his words and had the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. [I] stepped to the side, letting Officer Hughes know of my suspicion. Officer Hughes advised me he would be conducting a field sobriety test. Due to Gustavo only speaking Spanish, [I] translated the directions as Officer Hughes relayed them. While Officer Hughes conducted HGN on Gustavo, [I] had to repeat do not move your head multiple times in Spanish.” Gustavo showed several signs of impairment and a BAC of .271 on a PBT. Gustavo was placed under arrest and advised he wanted a lawyer. Gustavo was transported to Whitfield County Jail, where he showed a BAC of ..211 and was charged with DUI, expired registration, no insurance, and failure to stop/yield.
