Dalton man arrested again for DUI gives fake name to deputy during traffic stop on I-75

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On April 30th, 2023, at 1:35 AM, Deputy Woods was patrolling the area of Chattanooga Road near I-75 Southbound when he ran GA Tag #SBB4902 coming back to a gray Dodge Avenger with the registered owner (Maria Vega) having a suspended license. Deputy Woods then initiated a stop on the vehicle on I-75 and made contact with the driver, later to be identified as Brett Lamar Bonds, 40, of Dalton. Deputy Woods also made contact with the front seat passenger of the vehicle, later to be identified as Sandy Harris. Deputy Woods immediately smelt the odor of alcoholic beverages coming from inside the vehicle. Deputy Woods also observed both occupants’ eyes glossy and bloodshot. According to the report, “While Deputy Woods was communicating with Mr. Bonds, Mr. Bonds was observed slurring his speech as well as randomly giving the date of birth “07/30/1980″ to Deputy Woods. Deputy Woods then requested proof of identification from Mr. Bonds. Mr. Bonds stated he did not have his license on his person. Mr. Bonds then informed Deputy Woods that his name and date of birth were Brandon Bonds, 07/30/1980. ” During field sobriety tests, Bonds showed several signs of impairment and BAC of .280 PBT. Bonds were placed under arrest and refused state testing. According to the report, “Mr. Bonds then provided Deputy Woods with his real name and date of birth, “Brett Bonds 05/15/1982″. Per GCIC/NCIC, Deputy Woods observed Mr. Bonds has a history of giving false names and dates of birth. GCIC/NCIC also informed Deputy Woods that Mr. Bond’s driver’s license was suspended for DUI. Mr. Bonds then informed Deputy Woods that he had given him his brother’s name. Deputy Woods then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. Deputy Woods located a cooler/backpack containing several alcoholic beverages.” Bonds were booked into the Whitfield County Jail, charged with DUI driving under the influence 4th or subsequent convection (F), driving on a suspended license giving a false name, address, and birthdate to law enforcement.
