Dalton man arrested after giving false name during DUI traffic stop

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On June 6th, 2023, at 7:26 AM, Deputy Center initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Avalanche on Willowdale Road at Kimberly Park Dr after witnessing it exit from I-75 onto Chattanooga Road and crossed all three lanes of travel on Chattanooga Road just before Shugart Road, almost striking a car. According to the report, “After Deputy Center turned around to perform a traffic stop on the white Avalanche, Deputy Center witnessed the white Avalanche perform a left turn from Chattanooga Rd onto Willowdale Rd without yielding to oncoming traffic, which made oncoming traffic brake to avoid a collision, as the white Avalanche had the Yield arrow. Deputy Center made contact with the driver, who was smoking a cigarette and blowing the smoke out the window into Deputy Center.” The driver, Felix Jamal Moss, 44, of Dalton, stated he thought he had more clearance between him and traffic. Deputy Center asked him for his license. According to the report, “The driver stated he did not have his license but provided the name “Perry Williams III” and the birthdate of “March 23, 1991″. Deputy Center returned to his patrol car and entered the provided information into NCIC/GCIC, which had no return. Deputy Center looked this name up in RMS as well, which had a match to a subject with a similar birthday but was obviously not the same person from different facial characteristics. Deputy Center entered the registered owner of the white Avalanche through NCIC/GCIC, which was a Felix Moss, and returned with a suspended license. Deputy Center also looked at the return picture, which looked identical to the driver.” Deputy Center made contact back with Felix and could smell the distinct smell of alcohol emitting from Felix after the cigarette was put out. Felix was placed under arrest and transported to the Whitfield County Jail, where he refused the state test. Felix was charged with giving false name/date of birth, DUI driving under the influence less safe, driving on roadways laned for traffic, yield when turning left, open container, and driving on a suspended license.
