Convicted felon arrested after pointing loaded gun at sister during domestic disturbance

According to a Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report, On March 26th, 2023, Deputy Townsend spoke with a woman by phone in reference to a disturbance that had already occurred. She stated that both she and her sister Anita Kay Smith, 59, of Dalton, got into an argument, and Anita pushed her down a flight of stairs. She stated that she then went back up the stairs and got into a physical fight with Anita. She stated that after the fight stopped, both she and Anita walked downstairs. She stated that when they both got downstairs, Anita grabbed a gun from behind the bar and pointed it at her head. She stated that Anita then told her that she needed to get out of her house or that she would kill her. She stated that she watched Anita cock the hammer back on the gun and described it as being black in color with a long barrel. She stated that she did not wish to press charges against Anita. Witnesses confirmed this story to deputies. Deputy Townsend asked Anita if a weapon was involved or if she pushed her sister down the stairs. Anita stated that she did not. While speaking with Anita, she made a comment, “I’d like to kill her,” and “I should have shot her ass.” When Deputy Townsend asked if she had pointed a gun at her, Anita stated, “Yeah, I did it.” Deputy Townsend then asked Anita to explain what she did, at which time she admitted to taking getting her husband’s gun, pointing it at Tina, and telling her that if she did not get out of her f***ing yard, she was going to shoot her a**. Anita’s husband stated that Anita is an extreme alcoholic and that when she drinks 4 to 5 beers, her attitude changes and referred to her attitude changing like a light switch. Anita was confirmed to be a convicted felon and was booked into the Whitfield County Jail.
