Chattanooga felon found with loaded gun during early morning DUI traffic stop in Rossville

According to a Rossville Police Department incident report, On July 28th, 2023, at 3:15 AM, while Sgt. Carter was sitting at the intersection of McFarland Avenue and Chickamauga Avenue he observed a 2023 Chrysler Pacifica pull up to the traffic light at West Gordon Avenue facing Chickamauga Avenue. Sgt. Carter reported, “The vehicle then turned southbound onto Chickamauga Avenue while the traffic light was still red (a sign is clearly posted “no turn on red*) as the vehicle passed my location and failed to maintain its lane as it swerved from the slow lane into the fast lane. When the vehicle passed, [I] noticed that there were no taillights on. When [I] got behind the vehicle, it made a very quick left turn onto Spring Street, going north toward Chattanooga, Tennessee. At that time, [I] attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle, and it continued northbound on Spring Street until it reached the intersection of Spring Street and East Gordon Avenue, where it rolled through the stop sign as it turned eastbound onto East Gordon Avenue. At that time, the vehicle stopped. As [I] approached the driver’s door, [I] could smell the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.” Sgt. Carter made contact with the driver Anthony Berry Taylor, 48, of Chattanooga, who stated he was going to McDonald’s to get food. When asked if anyone had been smoking marijuana in the vehicle, he said that it was not his rental and that he did not know anything. Anthony showed several signs of impairment, including bloodshot watery eyes. During field sobriety testing, Anthony failed the tests. Anthony was then placed under arrest. During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock 42 .380. Anthony was found to be a convicted felon. Anthony was booked into the Walker County Jail, charged with DUI drugs, possession of firearm by convicted felon, obedience to traffic control device, failure to maintain lane, no taillights, no proof of insurance, failure to stop at stop sign, and failure to yield to emergency vehicle.
