Cedartown man arrested after brief pursuit in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On March 19th, 2023, at 3:30 AM, Officer Surrett was patrolling the area of 27 North near Hennon Drive and attempted to stop a vehicle that pulled out of Tavern 27 and began to fail to maintain lane. The driver, later identified as Kaleel Darnell Keshun King, 23, of Cedartown, continued to drive south. Upon approaching Waffle House on 27 North, Kaleel made a right-hand turn into the parking lot and accelerated his speed, making a right turn onto Old Summerville Road. Officer Surrett advised dispatch he was in a high-speed pursuit of the vehicle. Pursuit passed Old School Road before Kaleel made a left-hand turn into 115 Old Summerville Road, where his uncle lived. Kaleel was taken to gunpoint and followed all verbal commands. Officer Surrett reported, “I asked Kaleel why he ran, and he advised he had warrants. Upon running Kaleel’s name through dispatch, they did confirm he had active warrants and that his license was suspended.” Kaleel was booked into the Floyd County Jail, charged with felony fleeing, driving while suspended, and failure to maintain a single lane.
