Calhoun motorcyclist and passenger seriously injured in crash on Hwy 41 in Gordon County

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, On April 13th, 2023, at 9:30 PM, a 2002 GMC Sierra being driven by Edward Corbin Thompson-Hardin, 17, of Rydal, was traveling north on SR 3 in Gordon County, attempting to turn into a private driveway. A 2003 Honda Shadow, being driven by James Edward Whitmore, 51, of Calhoun, was traveling south on SR 3. According to the crash report, “Edward failed to yield the right of way and turned left into the path of the motorcycle. The Honda struck the GMC in the front with the front and left side.” James and a passenger identified as Jennifer Holmes, 47, of Calhoun, were both ejected off the motorcycle. Both vehicles remained at the area of impact and were not moved prior to the investigating trooper’s arrival. Edward advised that he was turning left into his girlfriend’s house and never saw the motorcycle. A witness advised that she was about one car length behind the GMC when it slowed down and began making its left turn in front of the motorcycle. Both James and Jennifer were seriously injured in the crash. They were taken by Life Force medical helicopter to Erlanger in Chattanooga, TN. Edward was cited by the trooper for failure to yield while turning left.
