Rome mother murdered in domestic murder-suicide on Shorter Avenue Wednesday morning

According to the Rome Police Department, Anthony Wayne Green, 56, of Rome shot Cassie Lashae Davis, 39, of Rome, while she was in her vehicle. Green then shot himself. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. The two had been involved in a domestic relationship. At around 7 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported car accident with injuries near the restaurant on Shorter Avenue. Prior to arrival officers received more information that the incident was a shooting rather than an accident. Police noted the incident was not related to Chick-fil-a, but rather occurred on the property of the restaurant. The westbound lanes of Shorter Avenue were blocked for a while and traffic was diverted through the Hobby Lobby parking lot. Truett’s Chick-fil-a released the following statement in regard to the incident: “Rome Community; A horrific incident occurred outside our restaurant this morning. We are currently cooperating with the police who are investigating. No other guests or Team Members were hurt, but we mourn with the community. We have closed the restaurant for the day to repair and care for Team Members. Thank you for your patience during this time, we plan to reopen tomorrow. Your General Manager, Greg Major”
