Rome man arrested for DUI after being stopped for speeding in Floyd County

According to a Floyd County Police Department incident report, On January 15th, 2023, at 1:58 AM, Officer Quijada assisted Lt. Pendley on a traffic stop on GA-1 Loop in front of the Unity Christian Church. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Triston William Patterson, 21, of Rome. Officer Quijada reported, “[I] proceeded to walk toward the passenger side of the vehicle. As [I] approached the vehicle, [I] could smell a strong order of marijuana coming from its interior. Lt. Pendley and Myself ordered both the driver and the passenger out of the vehicle.” The passenger was asked about the strong smell/odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle, to which she stated that there was no marijuana in the vehicle. She stated that Mr. Patterson and her had been smoking a lot of marijuana at a friend’s house about an hour ago. She stated that after smoking marijuana, they left their friend’s house and drove around town for about 30 minutes. Patterson stated that he was nervous because he had been drinking and had smoked a blunt of marijuana. During field sobriety testing, Patterson showed several signs of impairment. Patterson was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of drugs and agreed to the state test. Patterson was transported to the Floyd County Jail and charged with speeding and DUI.
